Ian Montgomery is a designer, educator, and tinkerer based in San Francisco.

He works across packaging, editorial, product, and spatial design, informed by a curiosity in material innovation, the future of manufacturing, and California’s rich tradition of contrarian design philosophy.

Previously, Ian founded & operated Guacamole Airplane, a design agency focused on sustainable packaging. He started his career in the art departments at Chubbies Shorts, Areaware, and Mollusk Surf Shop, and has taught in the Art & Architecture Department at the University of San Francisco.

When not working on toys & childrens spaces under the moniker department of birds and frogs, Ian is available for select freelance collaborations.
